Hyderabad: Realtor knocks down JN Chaudhuri stone
Hyderabad: Mild tension prevailed in the Defence Colony in Sainikpuri on Friday when a builder tried to demolish a foundation stone laid by top soldier, General Jayanto Nath Chaudhuri.
The foundation stone was partially demolished by the builder saying he has purchased the land.
President of Defence Colony Residents’ Welfare Association C.V.B. Krishna Murthy said, “We have lodged a police complaint, and the police has halted the works for now. We want a permanent solution as encroachers are eyeing this property.”
“It’s a natural rock and how can someone claim it to be an open plot? It is known that the builder is producing fake documents. The stone was laid in 1964 and the layout plan of the society was made in 1966. JN Chaudhuri was a national hero and by removing his memorial we are showing disrespect to him,” added Murthy.
The sub-inspector of police, D. Praveen Babu, said, “We received a complaint from the residents that the rock is being encroached and the builder is trying to demolish the foundation stone. By the time we reached the spot, the stone was partially demolished. We got him to halt the works asked him to produce valid documents. The situation is currently under control and the status quo is maintained. We have also booked a case against the builder under section 427 and 447 of IPC.”
