SC says one medical test, COMEDK, don't UGET it

The student fraternity is determined not to let the confusion surrounding NEET get in their way.

Bengaluru: Panic-stricken and disoriented they might be, but the student fraternity is determined not to let the confusion surrounding NEET get in their way after the Supreme Court said on Thursday: “There is no question of allowing any exam by private institutions.”

The three-judge bench headed by Justice A.R. Dave said unaided private medical colleges across the country cannot be permitted to go ahead with their pre-scheduled tests for admissions to MBBS and BDS courses in addition to the recently revived single-window entrance NEET, when some lawyers sought clarification on the fate of the entrance tests which have either been conducted or about to be held by the private colleges.

However, A.S. Srikanth, Chief Executive, COMEDK said the SC has not barred private medical colleges from holding their medical tests. “As such, there is no change in the COMEDK UGET schedule,” he said.

The fate of 1.8 lakh students hangs in the balance, as the ongoing SC hearing on NEET, the single-window entrance test to medical colleges has set of ripples of confusion that are conducted each year. The examination has been scheduled in 152 centers across the state, with a total number of 30,553 students registered from Karnataka.
