Kozhikode: The sunburn cases in the district has reached 159 with 13 reported in various hospitals in the district on Friday. On Thursday, there were 18 new cases, according to the health department.

The labour department, during inspections conducted at various workplaces, took action against three construction sites for violation of rules stipulating that workers should be given rest at noon time.

District medical officer Dr Jayasree has said that most of the sunburn cases were serious. She has advised to avoid the sun between 12 noon and 3 p.m.

The district administration has also warned of stringent action against those violating the rules, especially at construction sites.

Anganwadis, pre-school and summer camps should be closed for at least two weeks till the temperature becomes normal.
