Banjara hills police seize Rs 3.38 crore

Till now, a total of Rs 9.45 crore was seized in the Hyderabad commissionerate jurisdiction.

Hyderabad: Banjara Hills police seized around Rs 3.38 crores on Thursday night at three different places. In the first instance, police nabbed a person and seized Rs 1 crore from him. When questioned, he revealed information about huge deposits of money stored in two more places. Police raided the two houses and seized Rs 2.29 crores. Till now, a total of Rs 9.45 crore was seized in the Hyderabad commissionerate jurisdiction.

Anjani Kumar, commissioner of police, Hyderabad, said, “On specific information at a checking point at Zaheernagar, Banjara Hills, Road number 10, police found Chandrakanth transporting Rs 1 crore without proper documents. The cash was seized.”

When questioned, he told police about two more places where money was stored.

Subsequently, the police raided the two residences and seized Rs 2.29 crores cash from Ameer-pet and Begumpet.

A total of Rs 3.38 crore was seized in the joint operation by the Banjara Hills police and the flying squad team on Thursday night. It is one of the biggest crackdowns in this election season so far. As the money was in bundles with clear serial numbers, it will help police to track the money and investigate further.

The police will hand over the seized money to the IT department for further investigation.

In the previous assembly elections in the cash seizure cases, conviction was given in 19 cases and in one case, imprisonment upto three months was also awarded.
