AVC Engineering college students design solar battery car
MAYAILADUTHURAI: A group of final year students of electrical and electronics engineering (EEE) department of AVC college of Engineering Mayiladuthurai in Tamil Nadu have designed a new, hybrid solar battery car.
A college release said here on Friday that the weight of the car is 50-kg and it has a pulling capacity of 250-kg in which three people could comfortably travel in the vehicle, powered by solar batteries that are charged by a solar panel fixed on top of the car.
The car has been designed based on a model of Society of Automobile Engineering.
The car’s specialty is its engine. It is fixed on the hub of the rear wheels because it reduces power loss.
If one of the engines fail in this twin-engine car, one can activate the other engine. It is an eco-friendly vehicle and once the battery is fully charged, the car could run at good speed, up to even 80-km per hour.
The students’ team consisting of R. Aravindkumar, R. Rajkumar, A. Vinith, S. Ashokkumar, S. Raviragul, P. Thalapathiprabhakaran, R. Kirubanithi, G. Nagendhran, K. Nandhakumar , K.Viswanathan, K. Mohammedsidhik. had worked in designing this prototype under the guidance of Dr A. Ravi, head of the EEE department. The highly motivated students have named the car, ‘AVC Comfort’, and hailed by their college chairman.
