Telugu Desam strikes, marshalled out of house

As Friday is the last day for the 14th session of Lok Sabha, the YSRC MPs will resign and take up indefinite hunger strike from Friday.

HYDERABAD: In a dramatic development, Telugu Desam Rajya Sabha MPs are continuing their protest in the House, after the adjournment of the House on Thursday, to counter the proposed YSRC MPs’ indefinite hunger strike planned at AP Bhavan after submitting the resignations on Friday. In support of the protesting Rajya Sabha MPs, the TD MPs in Lok Sabha have started their protest in Parliament central hall. TD Lok Sabha MP Avanthi Srinivas Rao was shifted to Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital after he fell sick. Tension prevailed for a while when the marshals and Rajya Sabha staff finally took the TD MPs outside late at night.

After the adjournment of Rajya Sabha, Telugu Desam MPs Y. Sujana Chowdary, C.M. Ramesh, Garikapati Mohan Rao, Kanakamedala Ravindra Kumar and Sitarama Lakshmi continued their protests in the House, carrying placards. The TD MPs said that under any circumstances, they will not come out and will continue their protest inside the House. Since the last 12 days, the Lok Sabha did not take the no-confidence motion for discussion and was adjourned everyday.

According to the schedule, Friday is the last day for the second leg of Parliament Budget Session and both Houses will be adjourned sine die on Friday. There is no chance to take up the no-confidence motion on Friday also. The TD Rajya Sabha MPs have taken up their protest inside the House demanding Special Category Status to AP and implementation of assurances given to AP in the AP Reorganisation Act.

After coming to know about the protest of their Rajya Sabha MPs, the TD Lok Sabha MPs also have taken up a protest in Parliament central hall. Meanwhile, YSRC MPs have announced that they will resign once the Parliament Sessions are adjourned sine die and will take up indefinite hunger strike immediately. As Friday is the last day for the 14th session of Lok Sabha, the YSRC MPs will resign and take up indefinite hunger strike from Friday. To counter this, TD Rajya Sabha MPs have taken up the protest programme inside the House. On Thursday also, Lok Sabha was adjourned for the day without taking no-confidence motions given by several Opposition parties against the BJP-led NDA government for discussion.
