Kozhikode corporation nod for low-mast lights
KOZHIKODE: Corporation council has approved the tender procedures to install low-mast lights in all the 75 wards within the Corporation. The decision was taken at the Council meeting held here on Thursday. After the Opposition opposed the project citing irregularities in the tender procedures in the last meeting held on March 29, Corporation decided to put the agenda before the councillors again on Thursday. The plan to install low-mast lights was announced in 2017.
Uralungal Labour Contract Cooperative Society was also handed over the project. But when they backed our claiming they didn't have an A-class licensed electrician, the project got delayed. Later, with the direction from the state government, the Public Works Department prepared an estimate of Rs 1.72 crore to install three low-mast lights each in 75 wards within Corporation. With PWD dragging its feet, the project got delayed further, said mayor Thottathil Raveendran.
Council members also requested the state government to exempt the construction of houses under the Project LIFE" (Livelihood, Inclusion, Financial Empowerment) and Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (Urban) in lands coming under the wetlands database.
