Manjeet hurt on head; lost consciousness after the fall, say cops
Hyderabad: A teenager, Manjeet Choudhary, 17, died after falling from a rock inside the Nehru Zoological Park on Tuesday morning while trying to click a selfie. The zoo authorities say they tried their best to save him “We soon sent him to a hospital in a four-wheeler after it was found that he had a low pulse rate,” an official said.
They added that there was no issue of electrocution as the motor pump at the water fountain was properly maintained. According to police officials, Manjeet climbed the rock in order to click a selfie at around 1 pm while his family members waited on the ground. He suddenly slipped and fell into the water.
“He sustained an injury on the left side of his head during the fall. His head must have hit the edge of the wall or the rock itself before his body touched the water. He must have lost consciousness due to that and drowned,” said Bahadurpura police station sub-inspector A. Rajashekar Reddy.
Doctors at the hospital also said that there was a lot of water inside his body.
The fountain is more than one-foot deep and since Manjeet had lost consciousness, he could not get up immediately, cops said.
An autopsy was conducted in Osmania General Hospital mortuary to ascertain the cause of his death. Manjeet, who was a native of Bihar and residing at Jiyaguda, had come to the zoo with his sisters and brother-in-law as his vacation had just started.
“He had finished his Class X examination yesterday,” said his sister. Police has booked a case for suspicious death.
