Rains, winds uproot trees and electric poles:
Untimely rains coupled with strong wind uprooted trees and brought down electric poles in many parts of Karimnagar district, on Tuesday. The freak weather disrupted power supply and traffic and caused damage to standing crops. On the other hand, the showers brought respite to people struggling to cope with sweltering heat wave conditions.
Reports reaching here suggested that electric polls and trees fell in several villages in Kodimial, Mallial, Jagtial and Shankarapatnam mandals. Forty poles caved in Kudurupaka and Varadavelli in Boinapalli mandal alone, indicating severity of the rains. Power supply was hit in several villages.
Mango farms and standing paddy and maize crop have been destroyed due to the unexpected rains and gales. Vehicular movement on Karimangar-Warangal and Karimnagar-Jagital roads came to a standstill. The freak weather has added to farmers’ losses already caused by poor rainfall for the past two years. They asked authorities to extend compensation.
