Hyderabad: A technical committee has advised that a storm water drain be built and rocks be completely blasted first while constructing flyover and underpass at Mind Space junction. Work on the Raidurg Metro Rail station should follow this activity, experts said.
Dr M.S. Madhav, retired professor of IIT Kanpur, said, “Blasting of the rock for the underpass should be completed before taking up Metro Rail pillar foundations. These foundations are very sensitive to vibrations and any settlement of the ground after the blasting will have cascading effect on rail track and operations of trains. The bearing capacity of soil should be properly apportioned. These works must be done before the Metro Rail work is taken up.”
Dr K.V.L. Subramaniam, professor IIT-Hyderabad, said the Metro Rail structure was sensitive to vibrations and a lot of care had to be taken during the construction of the underpass. Officers belonging to the Hyderabad Metro Rail, L&T Metro Rail and GHMC had a joint meeting with experts to understand the technical issues.
