Chandrasekhar Rao clears file on teachers

The service rules were entangled in legal problems for two decades.

Hyderabad: Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao has signed a file pertaining to unified service rules for government and panchayat raj teachers in the state. The file will now be sent to the Union home ministry, which will forward it to the President for making amendments in Article 370(D).

The service rules were entangled in legal problems for two decades after government teachers raised objections. The Supreme Court, on September 30, 2015, directed the government to take up localisation of cadres with amendments to the Presidential Order. The education department worked on the proposals and sent them to Mr Rao three months ago.

The implementation of unified service rules would enable the authorities to fill up vacant MEO, Deputy DEO, DIET lecturers’ posts. It would also lead to strengthening of education system. PRTU leaders P. Sarotham Reddy, N. Laxma Reddy and members of other teacher unions thanked Mr Rao for clearing the file. UTF general secretary Chava Ravi urged the government to follow it up with the Centre so that the process would be expedited.
