Bengaluru: No need to panic! We still have Cauvery water till June
Mysuru: Water levels in reservoirs in the Cauvery catchment area may have dipped but they are still much better compared to previous year. Although there is no water for irrigation this summer, there is sufficient water to the meet drinking needs of Mysuru, Mandya and Bengaluru, and several towns and villages, claim Cauvery Neeravari Nigam officials.
The water level at KRS on Tuesday was 82.82 feet as against its capacity of 124.80 feet. The inflow was 105.924 cusecs and outflow, 48.549 cusecs. The level on the same day last year was just 74 feet.
At Kabini, the water level on Tuesday was 2256.81 feet as against its capacity-2,284 feet. The inflow was 57.486 cusecs and outflow, 38.885. Last year on the same day, the level was 2,845 feet.
Water level at Harangi on Tuesday was 2795.23 feet as against its capacity of 2,859 feet. The inflow was 20.94 cusecs, outflow, 9.670 cusecs. Last year on the same day, the water level was 2778 feet.
At Hemavathi, the water level on Tuesday was 2865.38 feet as against its capacity of 2922 feet. The inflow was 51.654 cusecs, outflow, 16.496 cusecs. Last year on the same day, the water level was 2845 feet.
“Water supply for summer crops was stopped on March 22. We have adequate water for drinking. We can manage till June. By that time, the South West Monsoon will begin,” KRS sources said.
Vanivilas water works executive engineer Anand said there has not been any change in the water supply situation. “We have been supplying 250mld as usual to Mysuru. But the water requirement has increased since it is summer. We have 600 borewells but the yield of most of them has dropped,” he said.
