All my income lawful, Jayalalithaa tells Supreme Court

Jayalalithaa's senior counsel submitted that all the income earned by her during 1991-1996 were through lawful sources.

New Delhi: There is no disproportionate assets to known sources of income as all her incomes are lawful, asserted Tamil Nadu CM Jayalalithaa in the Supreme Court on Tuesday.

Making this submission before the court, senior counsel L. nageswara Rao appearing for Jayalalithaa submitted that all the income earned by her during 1991-1996 were through lawful sources and assets acquired were not disproportionate to the income.

The counsel said income such as gifts received on her birthday and subscription amounts of Namadhu MGR newspaper were lawful income.

Quoting the trial court judgment, counsel said the trial court had found no evidence for the inflated marriage expenses of Rs 6 crores or the construction expenses and had taken the expenses at a reduced amount.
