Hyderabad: Minster for forest, environment and endowments A. Indrakaran Reddy on Tuesday directed officials to fix criminal cases against the industries and hospitals which are adding to the pollution woe.

In a review meeting, Mr Indrakaran Reddy said that the Telangana state Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao is working hard to protect environment.

“Haritha Haram is not just a role model project for the state but also for the nation to increase the green cover,” he said.

Complaining about the apathy by some industries and hospitals, he said, “Despite taking a number of initiatives by the Chief Minister, some of the industries and hospitals chose to neglect rules and continue to pollute the environment.”

The minister also batted to take measures to avoid use of plastic all across temples.

He directed the officials to come up with alternatives like jute bags.

Citing Maharashtra, he said, “Officials should work to make Telangana a plastic-free state on the lines of Maharashtra.”

He also asked the officials to protect Ameenpur lake, look into the problem of water scarcity in the Botanical garden.
