Tension prevails in Tirur; police tightens security
Malappuram: The police has beefed up security in Tirur and deployed more forces after clashes between BJP and SDPI workers which was broke in the town on Sunday. The attacks erupted during BJP workers' victory march through the town after the Tripura assembly election results were declared. Shops were vandalised during the march. SDPI workers had organised a protest march against the attacks on shops. BJP workers too had organised protest march against SDPI which led to the tension in the area.
The police has registered three cases against the BJP and SDPI workers in connection with the ruckus in the town and probe is on to nab the unidentified accused. The police is examining the CCTV footages collected from the shops in the town. Armed police personnel have been deployed in sensitive areas.
