Nampally orphanage work yet to take off

Officials now proposed a seven-storeyed building on 4,000 sq. yard land parcel.

HYDERABAD: Construction works of a multi-storied building are yet to start on a full-fledged note at the Anees-ul-Gurbha, an orphanage at Nampally. Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao laid the foundation stone in June last year and promised project completion at the earliest. Eight months have passed but for the earth excavation, nothing much had been done. Officials now proposed a seven-storeyed building on 4,000 sq. yard land parcel. The government allocated a budget of Rs 20 crore for construction of the new hostel-cum-school.

The first two floors will be used as a commercial complex and the rest five for shelter to orphans. In addition to making provision for shelter to 500 persons, a school would also be part of the complex. It would be for students from Class I to degree courses. Anees-ul-Gur-bha was set up in 1921 and was one of the oldest orphanages in the city. TS Wakf Board chairman Mohd Saleem said the tender for the project was finalised last week. “There was some issues pertaining to tender finalisation. Last week, we sorted out the issue and work will resume this week onwards more rapidly,” he said.
