Murugan death report sought

Murugan was allegedly denied proper trauma care at various hospitals for eight hours.

Thiruvananthapuram: The Kerala State Human Rights Commission has sought the medical board report on the death of Tirunelveli native Murugan who died allegedly following the denial of emergency treatment by several hospitals following an accident in Kollam last year. It was in the wake of reports that the medical board had defended the doctors that the Human Rights Commission sought the report.

Commission member K Mohankumar directed the health secretary to submit a copy of the report within two weeks. The Commission, which had earlier registered a case, had also sought the minutes of the medical board meetings. The medical board headed by neurosurgeon Dr P K Balakrishnan of Kottayam Medical College said in the report that Murugan was brain dead when he was brought to the hospital. It also found procedural lapses on the part of hospitals for not entering Murugan's details in medical records. Murugan was allegedly denied proper trauma care at various hospitals for eight hours.
