Gauri Neha's dad demands CBI probe

Prasannakumar has no trust in ongoing investigation'.

Kollam: The State Human Rights Commission has sought a report from the home department secretary seeking the government’s opinion on a CBI probe into the death of Gauri Neha. Commission member K. Mohankumar held a sitting at the Ashramam Government guest house in Kollam on Monday, during which Gauri’s father R. Prasannakumar said he lacked confidence in the ongoing police investigation into the death of his daughter and demanded a CBI probe.

Mr. Prasannakumar gave a statement before the Commission that the current investigation was in favour of the Trinity Lyceum management, trying to save the culprits. The Commission, apart from seeking an opinion for a CBI probe, also said it would get a report from the DGP on the probe if needed. The Commission earlier took on a suo-moto case after Gauri Neha of Makkatt Kizhakkathil, Kannimelcheri in Sakthikulangara, a 10th Standard student, jumped off the second floor of the primary block of the school on October 20, 2017 and succumbed to her injuries in a private hospital in Thiruvananthapuram three days later.

Meanwhile, the Director of Public Instruction (DPI) has recommended to the Government to cancel the NOC of Trinity Lyceum based on a report by Kollam Deputy Director of Education (DDE). The Kollam DDE had earlier dismissed as "unsatisfactory" the management explanation to her notice on celebrating the return of the accused teachers.

The police had charged the teachers Sindhu Paul and Crescence Navis from Kollam under sections 511, 305, 34 of IPC including abetment of suicide and sections under the Juvenile Justice Act for allegedly torturing the girl. The teachers, who were suspended following the incident, were given a warm welcome including cutting a cake in the presence of the school Principal earlier, after cancelling their suspension. These events became controversial. The DDE had served a notice twice on the management seeking an explanation for the act of celebrating the return of the accused teachers, later dismissing the explanation as “unsatisfactory”.
