Democracy is destroyed in Meghalaya: M M Hassan

KPCC president says money power helped BJP form the government.

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: KPCC president M. M. Hassan has expressed concern over money hijacking democracy in the country. "Democracy was destroyed in Meghalaya where the BJP with two MLAs formed the government with money power," he said at a function held at the KPCC office when Ms Lathika Subhash took over as Mahila Congress president on Monday.

"The people are losing trust in democracy and respect for the Constitution," Mr Hassan said and asked the CPM to examine the Tripura poll debacle. "The claim that CPM is the alternative to the BJP has been disproved. It should stop its blind hatred towards the Congress. The secular and democratic forces should join hands to fight the communal forces," he said.

Ms Lathika Subhash said that women from all sectors will be brought into the Mahila Congress to fight social injustices. Women were at the receiving end in the politics of violence, liquor and substance abuse, she added. Opposition Leader Ramesh Chennithala, former KPCC president V. M. Sudheeran, Mahila Congress former president Bindu Krishna and Mahila Congress workers from across the state attended the programme.
