CM Siddaramaiah to inaugurate Bengaluru Central University
Bengaluru: Chief Minister Siddaramaiah will officially inaugurate the newly formed Bengaluru Central University (BCU) on Wednesday. Addressing the media on Monday, Vice-Chancellor Dr S. Japhet said that the event will take place at the Central College Cricket Stadium on Palace Road.
Even though the official trifurcation from the parent Bangalore University (BU) took place on July 1 last year, the vice-chancellor said that the process of transferring the assets is yet to be completed. The university's first academic year will begin in June. Dr Japhet said that the university will start 20 more departments during the first academic year apart from the existing eight.
Guv to give it a miss
Nine renowned alumni of Central College, including M.N. Venkatachalaiah (former CJI), M.S. Sathyu (filmmaker), H.S. Doreswamy (freedom fighter), Dr Roddam Narasimha (aerospace scientist), Dr Geetha Narayanan (educationist), Dr Siddalingaiah and S. Nissar Ahmed (both poets) and Dr Vasudev Aatr (scientist) will be felicitated by the chief minister during the event.
At the same time, the chancellor of state varsities Governor Vajubhai Vala has not been mentioned in the list of guests. Clarifying this, Dr Japhet said, "The inauguration date was decided two weeks ago and inviting the governor in such a short notice was not possible. The governor will, however, be invited to inaugurate the academic sessions in June."
