Telangana: BCs see plot behind MBC panel decision

The BCs demand the government release the list of backward castes that are being considered MBCs.

Hyderabad: The recent decision of TS government to set up Most Backward Classes Corporation with a corpus of Rs 1,000 crore has created rift between various backward classes.

The BCs demand the government release the list of backward castes that are being considered MBCs. At present, there are four categories among BCs (A, B, C and D) for reservations in education and employment in addition to fifth category (BC-E) of Muslims.

However, there are complaints that in the first four BC categories, only a few castes were getting reservation benefits due to unscientific classification of castes in these groups.

During the Budget preparatory exercise recently, Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao announced setting up of MBCs Corporation which will be incorporated in Budget 2017-18.

He said Rs 1,000 crore to be earmarked and spent to uplift MBCs in education, employment besides reviving caste-based professions by encouraging fishing, sheep and pig rearing etc.

At present, there are 112 castes in BCs list. However, BC leaders see a conspiracy by the CM to create a rift between Backward Castes in the name of MBCs. “Already there are four categories among BCs.

If CM is really sincere about the development of BCs, he can increase these groups to eight and ensure equitable distribution of reservation benefits. Instead of doing that, he is planning to create two groups BCs and MBCs.

This will lead to fight between castes over which caste should be included in BCs and which in MBCs,” said R. Krishnaiah, president, All India BC Welfare Association. However, MBC leaders claim that of the 112, about 80 are most backward while only 32 are claiming all the benefits.
