Kozhikode: Congress leader A.K. Antony demanded strict action against the priest Robin Vadakkumchery who had raped a minor and tried to cover up the crime by secretly shifting the newborn and silencing the family.
“I feel nobody would extend any support to the priest and those who colluded with him,” Mr Antony said, adding that it is high time the church introspects on why such things happen.
Mr Antony, who was here in connection with the family meet organised by DCC on Sunday, was reacting to reporters about the incident. Later, addressing the party workers, he said, “Tourists need not come to the state only to drink liquor”.
“The government should not allow any bar or liquor shop in the name of tourism,” he added. On the pro-liquor policy of the LDF, Mr Antony said Congress workers should come out to the streets against such move. The increasing consumption of liquor and drugs in the district is the reason for the mafia culture and the recurring attack on women, he pointed out. DCC president T. Siddique presided over the function.
