Chennai: Ancient Sanskrit college takes digital avatar
Chennai: More than a century old, the Madras Sanskrit college at Mylapore, is all set to take a digital avatar by taking its content online. It will launch a comprehensive digital platform for Sanskrit that supports learning, scholarly interaction and research, including manuscript access and several other things, on Tuesday.
Unlike other colleges in the city, this 111-year-old college radiates with the traditional ambience and the students clad in dhotis, angavastrams slung on their shoulders, walk barefoot.
Seeing the students of mixed ages, gives one the impression of stepping into gurukula of yore. This institution has been helping youngsters seek a future in the ancient language.
The present move to go digital, marking a huge transformation from its traditional background would only make its presence go global. What makes the institution and also the subjects that are taught unique is that it addresses varying age groups. The digital mode will also cater to diversity in the composition, age and backgrounds of students and scholars.
According to sources, Cloud Campus by Classle, a home-grown innovative startup based in Chennai, took a major step by launching a comprehensive online digital presence on par with any international centre of learning.
Union Commerce and Industry Minister Nirmala Sitharaman will preside over the formal launch of the online platform on March 7.
