Budget leak: Chief Secretary SM Vijayanand seeks legal view

The Chief Secretary's action came on a petition given by Opposition leader Ramesh Chenn-ithala seeking action against finance minister Thomas Isaac.

Thiruvananthapuram: Chief Secretary S.M. Vijayanand has sought legal opinion on the row over Budget leakage, it is learnt.

According to sources, the chief secretary directed the law department to give a legal opinion on whether the leakage of Budget highlights during its presentation amounted to violation of oath of secrecy.

The Chief Secretary’s action came on a petition given by Opposition leader Ramesh Chennithala seeking action against finance minister Thomas Isaac.

Though Mr Vijayanand has gone on a week-long leave for personal reasons, the government would be under pressure from Opposition to take an action at the earliest. Meanwhile, the Opposition has decided to strongly raise the issue in the Assembly on Monday.

With the government sticking to its stand that there was no need for any further actions, the House may the disrupted.

Though an assistant private secretary of the finance minister was already removed from the minister’s office, the Opposition is demanding action against the minister.
