MALAPPURAM: The Muslim League is set to fight the elections with its ground fortified in the district by establishing good rapport with all the prominent community organisations. During the past few years, the party has improved its relationship with the Muslim organisations.
“Muslim League’s efforts to unify the community organisations for the common good have been fruitful,” says Mr K.N.A Khader, the new district general secretary. The organisational split within prominent Sunni and Mujahid factions was a headache for the party for long.
“The party has nothing to do with the religious views of these organisations. However, it could improve much in patching up the differences under the leadership of Sayed Hyderali Shihab Thangal,” said Mr Khader. The party has no declared enemy, he added.
“The League’s good relationships with all the community organisation can be translated into votes,” said Muslim League state general secretary K.P.A Majeed. The other Muslim political outfits such as SDPI and Welfare Party are not a threat to Muslim League, he added.
Apart from Samatha Kerala Jamiyathul Ulema, one of the prominent Sunni factions and strongest support bases of the party, the Kanthapuram Sunni faction and two Mujahid groups also support the Muslim League.
The Kanthapuram faction had received the backing of the UDF government for some of their pet projects, including Knowledge City that got tangled in legal issues in the Green Tribunal. “We support all secular democratic parties, including Muslim league. We consider Muslim League as a party which stands for the development of the minority in which the Congress had failed miserably,” says Mr C.P. Umer Sullami, state president of KNM, one of the Mujahid factions.
