Guruvayur constituency: Congress, IUML tussle continues

In return for Guruvayur, the Congress could give a seat to the IUML in Thrissur.

Thrissur: The tiff between the Congress and the Indian Union Muslim League over giving the Guruvyaur Assembly constituency to the grand old party in exchange for another Congress seat to the League is yet to be resolved.

IUML district president C.H. Rasheed had come out in the open against the state leadership and the Congress over the proposal to hand over Guruvayur seat. Congress sources said that the League which has announced its candidates for most of its seats had left out Guruvayur as it was clear that it could not win from there and wants to hand over the seat to the Congress.

In return for Guruvayur, the Congress could give a seat to the IUML in Thrissur. “We can only hand over a seat in Thrissur where it is difficult for us to win and the League could not dictate terms on the matter,” Congress sources said. If the League could not convince its district leadership on the matter, it would contest in Guruvayur, sources added.
