Telangana State Wakf Board approves Rs 15 crore budget estimate

Which is payable against the land acquired by the civic body for road widening.

Hyderabad: The Telangana State Wakf Board on Tuesday approved the budget estimate of Rs 15.45 crore for 2019-20, excluding the expenses. The Board is striving to pull in about Rs 300 crore from the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation, which is payable against the land acquired by the civic body for road widening.

The Board has also resolved to appoint two law officers and avail the full-time services of a charted accountant to ensure transparent maintenance of accounts. The Board realised the necessity of obtaining patta pass books for the Wakf lands in the name of the Board and inclusion of the Waqf Board in the revenue records to avoid alienation.

According to the budget estimation presented before the Board, though the state government has accorded budgetary provision of Rs 256 crore as grant-in-aid, the expenditures under this head are not shown in the accounts.

The Board has estimated that Rs 5.83 crore will be generated from the auction of hundies of six major Dargahs, Rs 4.15 crore from management charges and Rs 1.70 crore from Qazat revenue. The major expenditure of Rs 4.74 crore will be on pay and allowances, including the employee provident fund (EPF) and gratuity contribution.

Waqf Board chairman Mohammed Saleem claimed that in the first six months of the current financial year, the Board spent Rs 15.64 crore while the receipts stood at Rs 17.58 crore. The Board has a financial reserve of Rs 29.46 crore at present.

He said the police is investigating the matter of the fake NOC (no objection certificate) pertaining to the land attached to the Dargah Hazrat Hussain Shah Wali in Manikonda Jagir. He said the Board will wait for the findings of the police inquiry.
