Hyderabad: As many as 150 plastic drums and sand bucket kits have been placed at 30 points at Nampally Exhibition Grounds and 500 fire extinguishers have been distributed to the stalls to control small fires and avoid major disasters.
Secretary of the exhibition Ranga Reddy said, “The provisions were made based on the recommendations of the fire department. One extinguisher has been given per four stalls. A training was also carried out for the stall owners, office staff and volunteers on the use of extinguishers. The thrust is that small fires must be controlled immediately so that they do not spread.”
Officials have purchased equipment worth Rs 5 lakh so far. The government is also looking at creating systems in the Exhibition Grounds so that there is provision of water which will help to control fire mishaps.
