Mega alliance will be formed under AIADMK leadership, says D Jayakumar

The announcement on alliance is likely to be made after the brief budget session.

Chennai: Averring that talks towards finalising alliance are progressing apace, AIADMK senior and fisheries minister D. Jayakumar said his party will form a mega alliance under its leadership reflecting the feelings of the people.

“This will be a turning point… those in the opposite camp may also come to our side. It will be a mega alliance that will be formed under AIADMK’s leadership, reflecting the feelings of the people,” Mr. Jayakumar said and described it as “a victory alliance, which will ensure the rights of the people of Tamil Nadu.”

Speaking to reporters here on Tuesday he said an announcement on forging the ties would be made soon. “First on our priority is finalising the alliance, for which all are willing. Then the numbers of seats and places should be identified,” Mr Jayakumar said.

District secretaries’ meet on Friday: The AIADMK will hold a crucial meeting this Friday to evolve a strategy to face the upcoming Lok Sabha elections. Ahead of the meeting, Deputy Chief Minister O. Panneerselvam will present the budget in the Assembly.

In the evening, the party’s district secretaries, MPs and MLAs would meet at party headquarters under the leadership of Convener Mr. Panneerselvam and Co-convener and Chief Minister Edappadi K. Palaniswami.

Apart from strengthening the booth committees, the party would discuss about taking up joint campaign and other poll related work and particularly in repeating its spectacular performance in 2014 in which the AIADMK won 37 out of 39 seats in Tamil Nadu.

The announcement on alliance is likely to be made after the brief budget session.

Meanwhile, there has been overwhelming response from party members who have been swarming the headquarters to submit forms seeking party tickets to contest the Lok Sabha elections.

Mr Panneerselvam’s son, P. Raveendranath Kumar has sought a party ticket as AIADMK MP candidate for Theni or Virudhunagar constituencies on Monday when the AIADMK started distribution of applications to aspirants.
