KOCHI: P. Raju was re-elected unanimously as CPI district secretary on Monday during the party’s district council meeting held at Tripunithura. However, the selection of the 51-member district council was not so smooth. Though an official panel was submitted, nine members came out against the panel, resulting in an election.

Though the party leadership intervened to pacify the rebels, only three members backed out from the contest. The remaining six lost in the election. T. Reghuvaran, who left the CPM to join the CPI, and M.D. Antony were elected to the district council. Eight new faces and seven women were also elected to the council.
