Financial fraud: CPM not to meddle with Binoy case

SRP calls it his personal matter.

Thiruvananthapuram: CPM politburo member S. Ramachandran Pillai said his party would not intervene in Binoy Kodiyeri’s case as it was ‘a personal matter’. He told mediapersons in Delhi that the travel ban imposed by a Dubai court was a personal matter of Binoy Kodiyeri. It is for him to make efforts inside and outside the courts to resolve the matter. The party has nothing to do with the issue.

SRP’s statement comes close on the heels of CPM general secretary Sitaram Yechury confirming that he had received the complaint against Binoy for not paying back loan taken from a Dubai based company. At a press conference in Delhi on Saturday, Yechury had stated that the CPM had its own mechanism and procedures to deal with such matters. “We will take appropriate action and it would be decided later,” he said suggesting that the matter had not ended yet.

Yechury had also pointed out that the CPM state secretariat had for the moment rejected the allegations against Binoy. CPI state secretary Kanam Rajendran too came in support of Kodiyeri Balakrishnan saying that his CPM counterpart or his party should not be blamed for Binoy business deals. Coming as it is ahead of the crucial CPM state conference in Thirssur from February 22 to 25, the travel ban on Binoy is likely to create some embarrassing moments for the state secretary. Though Kodiyeri has tried to put a brave face, the business deals worth crores of rupees involving his son, has raised several eyebrows.
