THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The aviation institute girls are having a hard time in the state, it seems. A girl student of Bharat Aviation Academy at Nedumangad here has filed a complaint with the police that she was slapped by her classmate over a dispute. The college has suspended both the girl and the boy. The incident happened on February 1 when the accused Rahul Krishna, a student of diploma in supply chain and transportation, slapped the girl, 20, doing post-diploma in aviation and hospitality management, in the class room. In the melee, he also suffered scratches on his hand.
The family members of the girl hailing from Mundakkayam told DC that one of the senior staffers, capt. Rajeev, witnessed the incident but that he did not come to her aid. Mr Roy Mattackal, the girl's uncle said, "we informed the college authorities about the incident and they asked us to meet them on Monday. But director Shameer Mohammed was not willing to see us. Class teacher, Ms. Soorya, suspended the girl for 10 days and the boy for 15 days on Monday," he said.
Mr Shameer Mohammed told DC, "I am not sure what led to the incident. The suspension order was issued on Monday evening," he said. The aviation institute has its administrative office at Panavila junction in the city and the institute functions opposite Nedumangad bus stand. Nedumangad police station circle inspector S. S. Suresh Kumar said the girl and her family had filed a complaint. But a case was not registered as investigation was on.
"The girl and her family will come to the police station again on February 8. We will decide whether a case has to be registered on Thursday after the three parties are summoned to the station," said Mr Suresh Kumar. It may be recalled that I. S. Athira, a dalit BBA aviation student of IPMS College of Aviation here, who was subjected to casteist slur by her classmates, had jumped off a lodge at Karipur while on a training programme on November 30 last.
