Maritime India Summit can attract Rs 6 billion investments
Chennai: The Maritime India Summit-2016 would attract all potential investors and expects projects worth Rs 6 billion to be announced during the summit to be held in April in Mumbai, said Mr B Krishnamoorthy, deputy secretary, Union ministry of shipping.
Buoyed by the success of its RoadShow in Kolkata, industry leaders, corporate heads, policy-makers and Ministry of Shipping officials on Friday participated in large numbers in the event held in the city as a run-up to the Maritime India Summit-2016 (MIS 2016).
Mr Krishnamoorthy gave a power point presentation explaining the background, features, themes and objectives of MIS.
He said this kind of mega event was being organised for the first time by the ministry and it would provide a great platform for interactions among who’s who in the maritime sector.
Speaking on the occasion, Chennai Port Trust Chairman and Kamarajar Port Chairman-cum-Managing Director M A Bhaskarachar said the Union Government has given utmost importance to development of maritime sector to International standards.
“After having implemented various recommendations to achieve international benchmarks for increasing productivity and capacity utilization, the Ministry is now organising the Maritime India summit. As a precursor, roadshows are organised in many places including Chennai in a bid to increase investment in Port and shipping sector and to make our ports world class by duly leveraging vast coastline’’, he said.
