Woman journalist protests at Pampa

She said she was returning her hometown and will return whenever she would have a chance to report from Sannidhanam.

Pampa: Deepti Vajpayee, a reporter with TV9 Telugu, staged a protest before the police control room at Pampa on Saturday carrying a placard which read "No country for women journalists? Are we heading towards Taliban rule?"

Ms Vajpayee reached here a couple of days ago from Hyderabad seeking police protection to trek to Sannidhanam. But they refused. She had to give up her plan on Friday following this.

She said that she had clearly mentioned that she came to report not for a darshan.

"I didn't ask for protection, but their support. I had even put forward an option that if anybody protests midway, I would not insist on going forward," she told DC.

"But the police was unwilling. Why can't they support me if all male journalists are allowed to go there and report? As a woman journalist, I feel ditched."

She said she was returning her hometown and will return whenever she would have a chance to report from Sannidhanam.

Kavitha Jakkala, a Mojo TV reporter from Hyderabad, who reached near the Sannidhanam in police riot gear in October, had to return had to return after protesters stopped her.

New York Times reporter Suhasini Raj also met with stiff resistance before that.
