Steel bridge to eat into Indira Park

Proposed structure will affect tennis court.

Hyderabad: After KBR Park, now it’s the turn of Indira Park to be affected by the Telangana state government’s flagship Strategic Road Development Plan.

The proposed steel bridge from Indira Park to Hindi Mahavidyalaya would eat up a tennis court in the park. That apart, the proposed steel bridge would also damage a portion of the park and require axing of at least 50 trees.

According to superintendent engineer Mr Ravinder Raju, a major portion of the park, including the tennis court, would be damaged because of widening of the road. Mr Raju, however, said he was unaware of the exact portions of the park to be acquired for widening of the road.

A regular visitor to the park, Mr Srinivas Thammana, said: “The tennis court is used by a lot of people including children. It is a very popular facility for all classes of people. The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation should plan to save this facility.”

The construction of a four-lane bi-directional bridge from Lord Ganapathi Temple near R.K. Math to Baghling-ampally junction will commence first. Next, will be construction of the Ramnagar to Baghlingampally bridge.

As per the earlier proposals, the elevated corridor from Indira Park to VST junction would cost Rs 350 crore and the bridge from Ramnagar to Baghlingampally Rs 76 crore.

However, since the project has been extended, execution cost will escalate.
