Planned violence by RSS, says Pinarayi Vijayan

The chief minister said mass leaders were being targeted by Sangh Parivar.

Thiruvananthapuram: Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan on Saturday said that the RSS move to create fear in the state will not be allowed at any cost.

The chief minister said the RSS design to spread terror through violence will be put down with heavy hand. "Sangh Parivar is trying to deliberately create highly provocative situation in the state. RSS will not be allowed to hold the state to ransom. All required steps will be taken to ensure law and order," he said.

When asked about CPM state secretary Kodiyeri Balakrishnan's statement that party cadres have been asked to maintain restraint in the face of grave provocation from Sangh Parivar, he said the decision of people to maintain restraint was exemplary. Several provocative actions took place which could have triggered emotional reactions and even led to surcharged atmosphere. The attack on MLAs and other people's representatives could set off highly emotional reaction at local level, he added.

The chief minister said mass leaders were being targeted by Sangh Parivar. "But people should continue to maintain restraint. Violence is the path of only one section and it will be dealt with sternly by the government's law and order machinery. People should focus on mobilizing public opinion against mindless violence," he said.

The chief minister said it was unfortunate that the Congress was not willing to condemn the violence yet. The chief minister defended the police. "There was no lapse on the part of the police. The police took precautionary measures well in advance anticipating such violent attacks.
