Hyderabad: Two constables foil suicide bid
Hyderabad: Two constables attached with the Kharkhana Police station averted a suicide bid late on Friday night, when a man, who was suffering from depression due to family disputes, attempted to kill himself by slitting his throat.
The police constables, identified as Praveen Kumar and Zaheer Ali, on Friday night managed to stop a person named Rasik from committing suicide, police said.
“Rasik, 24, a resident of Balajinagar in Karkhana, was unhappy with his father’s decision to hand over the entire property to his siblings and in a bid to pressurise his family, the person inflicted wounds on his hands and other body parts with a knife,” police Inspector of Karkhana, Madhukar Swamy said.
Meanwhile, the police, who were informed about the issue and stopped him from hurting himself as he was holding the knife against his throat and was about to slit it.
“Rasik was an engineering graduate and was unemployed. He was frustrated and unhappy with his father’s decision to transfer the property to his sisters without giving him any share. When the police reached the spot, his parents and neighbours were appealing to him to drop the knife. It was the presence of mind of Constable Zaheer Ali who pounced on the person with the help of Constable Praveen Kumar to divert Rasik’s attention that helped avert the suicide,” said the official.
Since Rasik had inflicted severe injuries on his hands and stomach, he was shifted to the Gandhi Hospital for further treatment.s
