Bengaluru: Representatives from Citizens for Bengaluru, Bus Prayanikara Vedike and other environmental and civic groups met the member-secretary of the State Environment Impact Assessment Agency (SEIAA) and cautioned them that the elevated corridor project proposed to be taken up by the state government is violating various provisions of the law.
The members in their letter to the agency requested it to act in public and environmental interest and not to bow down to any political pressure.
They brought to the notice of SEIAA that the elevated corridor project violated the Karnataka Town and Country Planning Act.
The government is planning to spend lakhs of crores for elevated corridor, steel flyover, Satellite Town Ring Road, Peripheral Ring Road, signal-free corridors and other projects. Instead of these huge multi-crore investments, the government should draft a comprehensive mobility plan for the city, the representatives stated in the letter.
Postcard campaign kicks off
These groups have launched a massive citywide postcard campaign by citizens, seeking public consultation. The representatives stated that though the chief minister and the deputy chief minister have been stating that the doors to their offices are open for
discussion and the project will be taken up for public consultation, the two leaders have not consulted the public so far.
The representatives called upon citizens of Bengaluru to join the postcard campaign and write to the CM and the DCM on #PublicConsultationsBeku.
