As Karnataka hikes tax, petrol prices go up
Bengaluru: On the backdrop of state government increasing the tax rates for fuel, petrol and diesel prices in the city have gone up. On Saturday a litre of petrol was priced Rs 70.84, while diesel at Rs 64.66.
Citing revenue loss, the state government has hiked taxes to 32% from 21% on petrol, while for diesel it has been hiked to 28.75% from 17.73%.
FKCCI has expressed concern over hike in fuel prices. FKCCI president Sudhakar Shetty said, "This hike will have its impact on the price of essential commodities like groceries and vegetables."
He said crude oil price fluctuation in the international market has to be factored in to restore financial equilibrium.
He urged the State Government to ensure that there is no hike in domestic commodity prices affecting the citizens.
Amit Shah flays hike
BJP president Amit Shah has lashed out at the Karnataka government for hiking tax on petrol and diesel and wondered why the people should pay such a heavy price for "corruption and inefficiency of the state government". “Under the present Congress-JD(S) government in Karnataka, farmers are dying, dalits are being enslaved and common man is being oppressed with taxes. Why should the citizens of Karnataka pay such a heavy price for the corruption and inefficiency of the state government?" he said in a tweet.
