Hyderabad High Court relief for Ramesh in citizenship cancellation

His counsel Y. Rama Rao said the Centre had passed the order without giving the MLA an opportunity to be heard.

Hyderabad: The Hyderabad High Court on Friday granted relief to TRS Ve-mulawada legislator Dr Ramesh Chenna-maneni, by staying an order of the Uni-on home ministry ca-ncelling his citizenship.

Justice S.V. Bhatt granted the interim order while dealing with the petition by Dr Channamanenu challenging the proceedings issued by the home ministry on December 13, 2017, dismissing his review for its order dated August 31, 2017.

His counsel Y. Rama Rao said the Centre had passed the order without giving the MLA an opportunity to be heard, based on a complaint from Mr Adi Srinivas who had lost the election to the petitioner in 2014.

Mr Rama Rao submitted that though Dr Chennamaneni was granted citizenship by Germany in 1993 he spent most of the time in his native district of Karimna-gar to serve the people.

Mr Ravikiran Rao, senior counsel appe-aring for Mr Adi Srinivas, that though the Centre had given him an opportunity, the MLA did not rectify his statement with regard to his stay in the India.
