43 injured as bus with students rams house in Puthiyappa
KOZHIKODE: Forty-three people including students, teachers and a driver, were injured, eight of them seriously, when a tourist bus they were travelling in rammed into the wall of a house on the roadside in Puthiyappa, near here on Saturday. The team from Shenoy Memorial Government Higher Secondary School, Payyannur, was on their way to Kappad, after visiting planetarium and Kozhikode beach.
The injured people were taken to government medical college hospital and a private hospital. In the impact of the accident, the front portion of the house of Sachidanandan Padinja-rekandi was totally damaged. His pregnant daughter-in-law was also taken to hospital, as she experienced uneasiness after the accident.
The bus, after losing control, moved through the footpath and rolled off the road before hitting the wall of the house.
Fire force personnel broke opened the glasses and body of the bus to rescue the passengers. Ambulances from government general hospital and medical college hospital reached the spot.
Forty-three students and five teachers were in the bus at the time of the mishap. Two years ago, in the same spot, a car had rammed into the same house, police said.
