35 lakh more enrol for higher education

There was an increase in overall enrolment from 2.75 crore in 2010-11 to 3.57 crore in 2016-17.

Hyderabad: The total number of students enrolled in higher education courses in 2016-17 reached 3.57 crore, according to the All-India Survey on Higher Educa-tion released on Friday.

In last three years, the student population increased by more than 35 lakh, said the report released by Union HRD minister Prakash Javadekar.

There was an increase in overall enrolment from 2.75 crore in 2010-11 to 3.57 crore in 2016-17 and improvement in Gross Enrolment Ratio (GER) in higher education to population in the eligible age group (18-23) years.

The number of institutions of higher education on AISHE portal had also increased significantly to 864 universities in 2016-17 from 621 in 2010-11 and 40,026 colleges from 32,974.
