Hyderabad High Court directs police not to arrest directors of Musaddilal Jewellers

IPC cases not applicable on Musaddilal directors.

Hyderabad: The Hyderabad High Court on Thursday directed the Central Crime Station police not to arrest the directors of Musaddilal Jewellers Pvt. Ltd. in a case lodged by the Income-Tax department. Justice Suresh Kumar Kait was hearing petitions moved separately by Jithender Kumar Agarwal, Nikhil Gupta and other directors of the firm, seeking anticipatory bail.

The CCS had registered the case against the firm, including its MD Kailash Chand Gupta and other directors for allegedly generating advance cash receipts in the night of November 8, soon after the demonetisation announcement.

B. Chandrasen Reddy, counsel for the petitioners, submitted that there was no need of invoking provisions under the IPC once the provisions under the I-T Act are set in motion.

He said that his clients were already cooperating with the I-T authorities and were prepared to pay the penalties to be imposed on them, hence it was not proper to harass them by invoking the IPC.

While directing the police not to arrest the petitioners, the judge asked the deputy director of I-T department to appear before the court on January 18 to explain the reasons for invoking the IPC against the petitioners.

The judge made it clear that petitioners shall cooperate with the investigation officer and appear before him whenever their presence is required.

TSPSC allowed to hire agricultural officers
The Hyderabad High Court on Thursday paved the way for the TS Public Service Commission to go ahead with recruitment of agriculture officers, agriculture extension officers and horticulture officers by vacating its earlier interim orders.

Earlier, a division bench comprising Justice V. Ramasubramanian and Justice G. Shyam Prasad, while dealing with a batch of petitions by some contract employees who had been discharging the duties for several years as AO and AEO, had granted interim direction to the government not to finalise the selection process.
