Oommen Chandy plays hide n' seek with AICC leadership
THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Former chief minister Oommen Chandy is playing hide and seek with the central leaders who wish to talk to him to sort out the issues plaguing the state unit. With the AICC not in a mood to concede his demand for organisational elections immediately after the UP Assembly polls, Mr Chandy is also keeping the central leadership guessing on his moves.
Mr Chandy has refused to meet Mr Dipak Babaria, AICC secretary in charge of the state, who is here to meet the party leaders. Mr Chandy was busy with his programmes in Kottayam and Ernakulam on Thursday and will go to Kozhikode on Fridaywhen Mr Babaria will be in Kochi to participate in the protest against the centre's policies. "Chandy is not interested in meeting any central leaders at this juncture. By the time Babaria reaches Kochi, Chandy would be on his way to Kozhikode to avoid him," a Congress leader told DC.
"The AICC will not decide on the organisational elections just for the sake of Kerala. Chandy is targeting KPCC chief Sudheeran and wants him removed. But the majority of the state Congress leaders do not approve of his stubborn behaviour which has pushed the party into a quandary," said a KPCC general secretary. Mr Chandy will keep off the high-power Political Affairs Committee meeting on January 14, but his 'A' group leaders will attend it, it is learnt.
