Hyderabad: 600-grams premature baby normal now, goes home
Hyderabad: An extreme pre-term baby weighing only 600 grams, born at 26 weeks, has recovered at a city hospital. The baby now weighs 1.75 kg.
Dr C.V.S. Lakshmi, a neonatologist, said, “The mother had severe hypertension due to which the growth of the foetus was affected. The mother had a sudden seizure which compromised blood supply to the foetus. A C-Section had to be done to save the baby.”
The baby had immature lungs and underdeveloped organs. Kept in an incubator for three months, the baby was provided proteins and calories.
For one month the baby was intolerant to milk feeds and had to be fed through intravenous fluids.
A senior doctor said the baby contracted pneumonia but was able to overcome it. Doctors state that it had been a challenge but the child has recovered and is being discharged. “The child is stable,” Dr Lakshmi said.
