DRDO makes robots, to be used in recce
TIRUPATI: In a significant move in the making of intelligence-autonomous robots, DRDO has developed robots that searches for objects and interacts with other robots and a sentry robot that guards. As a step towards GPS-less autonomous navigation, DRDO demonstrated several robots including Simultaneous Localisation and Mapping Robot here. The Centre for Artificial Intelligence and Robots, a wing of DRDO, has developed many advanced robotics systems earlier including serpentine, legged robots and semi autonomous.
According to DRDO scientists, the autonomous navigation is the critical requirement for intelligent mobile robots. To autonomously navigate in an environment, a robot must perform Simultaneous Planning, Localisation and Mapping (SPLAM).” The sentry robot will autonomously navigate with a-prior map and provides continuous video feed with colour camera and a scanning laser range finder for obstacle avoidance and wi-fi linked.
