Doctors' stir in Sirsi tomorrow to protest against assault by MP Anant Kumar Hegde
The medical fraternity in Sirsi taluk has decided to suspend work on Saturday.

HUBBALLI: With the police yet to file any complaint against MP Anant Kumar Hegde, in connection with an assault on two doctors, the medical fraternity in Sirsi taluk has decided to suspend work on Saturday.
Police officials claimed that they are waiting for the injured doctors to file a complaint. However, these doctors have refused to do so after the BJP leader reportedly tendered an apology. The MP had assaulted two doctors and a staff of a private hospital for allegedly neglecting in providing treatment to his mother.
Additional superintendent of police K.G. Devaraj claimed the police have approached the injured doctors of Totagar's Seva Samiti (TSS) Hospital in Sirsi, where the incident was occurred, to file a complaint. He also said that the police are waiting for the response from Taluk unit of Medical Council of India (MCI) to receive complaint before lodging suo motu case based on CCTV footage.
However, MCI taluk unit president Dr Kailash Pai said that he is waiting for the advice from the State body of the council. "We will call for bandh on Saturday condemning the assault on our doctors. We will suspend our service on that day, except casualty treatment. Medical fraternity will also stage protest in all districts against such incident on that day," he added.
Meanwhile, several organisations have submitted memorandum to the police demanding action against the MP. Janashakti Vedike president Madhav Naik alleged that the police officials were letting the politician go off the hook.
