DC impact: Tasmac bar in Padi violates order
Chennai: A Tasmac bar in Padi, which has been ordered to close down for selling liquor, during days declared holiday to mourn the death of chief minister J. Jayalalithaa, continues to do brisk sales violating the recent government orders passed by Tasmac authorities.
The move by Tasmac bar leaseholder has left the Tasmac babus baffled over the attitude of the contractor. According to Tasmac sources, Tiruvallur district manager J. Jayakumar recently passed an order quoting Deccan Chronicle news item published on December 8 and said in response to the new item a probe conducted in the bar. The inquiry showed a decrease in liquor stocks exposing the fact that the bar was operated ignoring the Tasmac notification. The order copy available with DC further said that the Padi Tasmac bar licensed to Mr Rajamani is temporally ordered for immediate closure.
However, when DC visited Padi, the bar was found making brisk sales on Thursday. When contacted, Tasmac managing director Kirlosh Kumar, the top official said, “If the DC's new item is true and there is a violation of government order. Tasmac will lodge a police complaint and if necessary will arrest the bar owner after registering a police FIR”, the official said.
According to Tasmac sources, the bar licensees are often hand in glove with the local politicians and continue to ignore the statutory orders passed by the state government.
