Demand for activating dummy traffic signal at Kimko Junction

The advocate, Mr Vishwanath, has explained in his petition that the absence of signal lights at the junction is posing a danger to pedestrians.

Bengaluru: A traffic signal at Kimko Junction on Mysuru Road should be activated, an advocate has petitioned the West DCP Zone traffic department.

Kimko Junction is one of the major junctions on Mysuru Road that connects Vijayanagar and Deepanjali Metro Station and vehicles from this point proceed towards BHEL Circle and Gali Anjaneya Temple.

The advocate, Mr Vishwanath, has explained in his petition that the absence of signal lights at the junction is posing a danger to pedestrians.

DCP Traffic West Dr Sowmyalatha visited the Kimko Junction to verify the demand. “There is some dispute. Some people demand a signal light, but a few are not for it. It is said that pedestrians find it difficult to cross the road at the junction. We visited the spot to see whether the signal lights are necessary and how we can improve the junction. The traffic training expert has been asked to study the area and he will suggest some improvements. Based on it, the department will move ahead,” she said.

The Byatarayanapura Traffic police said that the signal lights were working four years ago when the stretch was a two-way. Since it has been made one-way, the signal lights are not required. Those travelling to Kodagu, Ooty, Kerala and Mysuru will get delayed by at least 5 minutes if the traffic signal lights are reactivated.

The police maintain that vehicles can gain speed after reaching the Kimko Junction. Even without the signal, the junction already sees slow-moving traffic. During Dasara and weekends, the stretch becomes very busy.

There is a problem with footpaths and the central median. Grills will be installed soon. For now, a sub-inspector has been told to monitor the pedestrian movement at the junction, the police said.
