Bengaluru: Alert landlord saves couple from suicide pact

The couple got married one-and-a-half-years ago and were working at private firms.

Bengaluru: An alert house owner with the help of city police saved the lives of a couple who attempted suicide by slitting their throats at their residence near Manjunath Ground in Srinivasanagar.

The Girinagar police responded in time after they were alerted by the landlord and saved Balaji (31) and his wife Sowmya (22), who are undergoing treatment at Victoria hospital and are said to be out of danger.

The couple got married one-and-a-half-years ago and were working at private firms. Balaji is from Challakere in Chitradurga, while Sowmya is from Kadur taluk of Chikkamagaluru district.

The police said that Sampath, the owner of the couple’s house, called up 100 around 3 pm and sounded an alert about the couple bleeding profusely. A team of Girinagar Inspector Siddalingaiah, Sub-Inspector Vinay, Constables Madhusudan and Mahadev and woman constable Sahana rushed to the spot with an ambulance. They broke open the door of the house and shifted the couple to Victoria Hospital.

“When we reached the house, the couple were lying unconscious in a pool of blood. We are glad that we managed to save their lives," the police said.
